Communication

I share knowledge, insights, and experience with others through my writing and presentations. My goals are to develop the abilities and understanding of students, teachers, and parents, and to advance the field of education.

A colleague and I wrote a unit based on the All About Explorers website. It was published in Toni Buzzeo’s book, Collaborating to Meet Standards: Teacher/Librarian Partnerships K-6 (2nd ed.). We have also presented several times in our district about the site, the unit, and how it is being used.

In my professional blog, I share insights, teaching ideas, and encourage discussion about various education topics. I also use a blog in my role as a district administrator to communicate with parents and the community.

I previously incorporated a wiki and blog into my teaching as a way of teaching collaboration and communication skills in a motivating and engaging way.

I am also in the process of building a professional development wiki for supporting classroom teachers in differentiating instruction in their classrooms and to encourage them to share their expertise.

I have written comprehensive, differentiated, and highly motivating units in all subject areas. Examples of the units I have created:

  • The Qin Dynasty of Ancient China
  • Alien Zoology (study of classification of animals)
  • Architecture and Community Planning
  • Raging Planet (severe weather and natural disasters)

As the lead science teacher, I wrote and/or edited planned course outlines for all courses in the district’s K-12 science curriculum

Other technical skills include:

  • Familiarity with both the Drupal content management system and WordPress blogging platform
  • Conversant in HTML and CSS coding
